lithium batteries in depth, we are actually evaluating the
resistance of the entire lithium battery system, including the
battery itself and its encapsulation materials, in the face of
moisture erosion. Since lithium batteries are not naturally
resistant to moisture ingress on their own, it is essential to
employ additional waterproofing measures. Encapsulants are an
efficient and commonly used solution that provides an additional
protective barrier for lithium batteries.
Encapsulants, as high-performance adhesives, are mainly used to
encapsulate and protect electronic components, including lithium
batteries. It cures into a strong, dense protective layer that
effectively blocks moisture, dust, and other harmful substances
from invading the inside of the battery. Different kinds of
encapsulants (such as epoxy resin, polyurethane, silicone, etc.)
have different waterproof properties, among which silicone
encapsulants are favored for their excellent weather resistance and
waterproof properties.
Although potting compounds significantly enhance the waterproofing
properties of lithium batteries, they are not foolproof. In
applications, users should take extra care to avoid deep immersion
of lithium batteries in water or prolonged exposure to moisture, as
moisture can still penetrate through tiny crevices, even with
encapsulant protection. Waterproof sealing is critical, and it's
important to ensure that the encapsulant is applied evenly and
without gaps to maximize waterproofing.
Considering that the waterproof performance of the potting compound
may be weakened due to aging, wear or physical damage, it is
recommended that users regularly check and maintain the waterproof
status of the lithium battery. Safe use is always the first
principle, be sure to follow the safe use guidelines of lithium
batteries, avoid overcharge, overdischarge, short circuit and other
improper operations, to ensure the safety and reliability of the
battery.
Although potting compounds can significantly improve the waterproof
performance of lithium batteries, the waterproof effect is not
absolute. In order to ensure the safety and longevity of the
battery, we still need to take appropriate precautions and follow
proper use and maintenance methods.
